For the next 3 weeks, I’ll be covering my entry for GBWC 2019, the MG Blitz from Gundam Seed. This first post is all about the modifications.
Pinning and posing.
The most important mods are those that allow Blitz to hold the dynamic pose. First the pinning:
Bam, solid connection and a dynamic pose Should have touched up the black paint on the pin though.
Next, I needed to glue the four joints in place, shown below and colour coordinated for your convenience.
I used a 2 part epoxy glue from Daiso, which after mixing, sets hard in under 10 minutes (ie fast enough to not be annoying but slow enough that I have time to position the joint) so it’s perfect for this.
The rifle, aka, I need a big gun, but not that big.
I want a submachine gun, something whippy that can be wielded one handed. But, all I have is MG Destiny’s stadard 2-handed rifle. Luckily it is a simple fix with a saw and cement. Everything in red will be recycled for other projects. To extend the butt I just glued a small piece of scrap plastic on the inside of it.
1. I thickened the grip to fit into Blitz’s hand by cementing on scrap plastic and filing it down.
2. After cutting off the secondary grip I filled the remaining gap with epoxy putty .And BAM! After many rounds of priming, puttying, sanding and finally painting, this is what I ended up with.
I could have done a better job lining up the the rear of the rifle, but overall I’m very happy with it.
Making painting ankles easier, aka even mecha need slip ons.
This is Blitz’s ankle, with a great big spiky bit sticking off the back. The black armour clamps onto the ankle frame, and … … another separate frame piece inside the spike. Unfortunately, there’s a seam down the middle of the black armour, so.. … I’m going to modifiy it so I can fix the seam and paint the parts separately, then slide them together. Here are the insides of the pieces, … … and here they are again colour coded. Red pegs into red holes, purple tabs in purple holes. The mod is super easy, cut off the pegs and tabs (in red here), and then they will slide on/into the respective pieces. That’s it.
So that’s all for the mods.
Next week I’m going into the painting details, and the following week the finished model.
Let me know what kind of Gundam content you want to see, and thanks for checking out TG.
