Here is what I’ve been working on for the past month. There will be a proper break down of the builds once they are done.
RG Freedom
You know how some people they NEEEEED a morning coffee, the type of people who will stare at you one eye bulging and out and twitching if they don’t get their sweet sweet caffeine fix? Well that’s how I feel about painting; and for the past month I have been denied anything as I have cut and sanded away at the Barbatos and Dreissen (which we’ll talk about below). So in desperate need for a painting fix I grabbed the RG Freedom out of storage and set it up to paint. No customizing, just painting.
This is going to be a quick build so I’m keeping it to a simple custom colour scheme. Most of my recent kits have been orange, red and pink so I’m going with a white, black and blue colour scheme a la Mercy’s Cobalt scheme from Overwatch.
Again, Overwatch is a great resource for colour schemes. I want bright vibrant colours so I’m going to be priming in white; and to add some depth of colour I’m going to pre-shade.
I’ve preshaded on the 1/144 scale before, but that was a HG Age 2 Normal, a significantly less detailed kit, so the Freedom should be a good test of my airbrush accuracy and control.
Oh sweet sweet airbrushing, how I’ve missed you.
I’ll be adding more pictures of this build once it’s done.
Barbatos Mace
The Barbatos Mace is almost done. Since last update I have added plaplate to each side of the handle to stiffen it; and then sanded down and beveled the handle. Bevelled edges almost always look better than hard edges. I used this bastard file parallel to the direction of the handle, it’s not a perfect 45 degree angle, but that’s unlikely to be noticed at this scale.
Epoxy putty is used to bulk up the head and the handle to head connection. Originally I planned to use this mace for the Hi-Res Barbatos, but I’m starting to think it’s better off being used elsewhere, so I’m shelving it for the time being.
Pictures to come.
HGUC Dreissen
I’ve been cutting this guy up for awhile now in order to change up the proportions. Dreissen has the same problem a lot of Zeon suits seem to have, a head which appears to have been hammered into the chest and arms that are a tad too short for their own weapons (then again, lot’s of models have this problem). To remedy this I’ve made these extensions: 3mm to the biceps, 2mm to the neck, 3mm to the bottom of the torso, 3mm to the calves and 2mm to the ankles. Makes him look heroic! At the moment I’ve extended his right side but left side so you can see the difference in height. Once those extensions are done I’ve just got to finish up the sanding then I can begin painting him up!
