I’ve recently finished a review of the RG Sazabi for Gunpla101, a good website to check out if you’re brand new to Gunpla or want to start delving into intermediate techniques. If you’re curious about the RG Sazabi head on over there for an in-depth review, including things to look out for during the build. [Read more…] about RG Sazabi – Review and Stop Motion Video

RG Freedom WIP
Painting is almost done, so I’m moving onto the desert themed base. I’m picturing the SF flying fast and low to the ground, kicking up tremendous volumes of dust as it passes; like this but with dust instead. I would have done water too but there would be too much blue on the diorama. [Read more…] about RG Freedom June 2018
Hi-Res Barbatos Pt 3
I’ve been tackling two new skills with the Barbatos this past fortnight: 1. the scratch built mace, and 2. painting the eyes and forehead gem. [Read more…] about Hi-Res Barbatos Pt 3
Doing a panel line wash & Hi-Res Barbatos Part 2
When you first start adding detail to your models, the first and easiest step is to start panel lining with a Gundam marker, which is as easy as using any other pen as it has a very narrow tip to leave fine lines. It adds a great deal of depth to your model by making the detail lines stand out. [Read more…] about Doing a panel line wash & Hi-Res Barbatos Part 2
Hi-Res Barbatos Part 1
I’m currently working on the first of Bandai’s Hi Resolution line, the mighty Barbatos, king of reducing mobile suits and their pilots to paste. As is appropriate, the Hi-Res is a great interpretation, featuring more angular armour, and way more detail.
Given all the Barbatos and Mika do in the series, I feel a squeaky clean white paint scheme doesn’t fit, so I’ll be using clear paints to change it up. This way I get a darker (but still heroic) colours and keep Bandai’s shiny HD coating.
So far I have painted:
- the white sections clear blue, except for the shoulders which are bright orange,
- most of the frame parts gun metal,
- the light grey parts a lighter grey, they are almost white.
The next steps will be to:
- finish painting the plated parts (so far I have painted them chrome silver) a mix of orange, blue and yellow,
- paint the wrist connection pieces,
- paint the included sword and cannon,
- finish scratch building a custom mace. After all, what is a Barbatos without a mace? I’ll be posting a detailed step-by-step for the mace later on.
I paint on my apartment balcony where I get good air flow, important for not gassing yourself to death.
