Alright first kit of 2020 completed! No need for a blurb, let’s take a look.
Let’s start with a simple 360.
Pre-paint
Over the past weeks I detailed the steps to get this model pain ready, and you can find the details in their respective post. They are extending proportions, removing seam lines (and sanding), repositioning the wrist that holds the bazooka, and, detailing the rear skirt.
Paint Steps
1. To start the whole model was sprayed with grey primer. In fact it got a coat after every sanding session. 2. Then the whole model was base coated with IJN Grey Green 3. The weapons, extra armour, and weapons were airbrushed with a custom dark gey mix. If I remember correctly it’s 80% grey/20% black.
4.a Now we get into hand painting, and yes I hand paint lacquers. This yellow if for the thrusters and crotch emblem. 4.b. This is only for the missiles and the crotch emblem. For the crotch, I deliberately painted yellow then red to make it easier for myself. 5. This is a custom mixed green made from mixing a bright green with red. 6. Handpainted gunmetal for the frame, thruster internals, and vents. Next time, I will paint the gunmetal details before the other handpainted details as I suspect it will be easier. 7. The outside and lip of the thruster bells are handpainted MODO bright silver. 8. The various sensors and cameras were all painted either fluorescent red… 9. … or fluorescent yellow. 10. Lastly, I use Mr Weathering Ground Brown for the panel lining. This is the only enamel product I used for this project. I like this as a general purpose panel liner as it looks good over most colours and it’s ready to go straight out of the bottle.
More pictures!
If I had more time I would have loved to add some water slide decals to this model, as there are many large areas that could use a splash of colour and detail. Also, I’ll definitely paint the recessed details before the surrounding next time as I suspect it will be easier; for example, on the chest vents, I would paint the gunmetal before the yellow. Aside from that I’m happy with how this kit turned out. Thanks so much for visiting. Next I’ll be working on the HGUC Dijeh, stay tuned!
